Experienced, kind, professional, and most important -- effective. MPT has helped me and my son recover from injuries that required surgery. When Mark told me that I was ready to "graduate" from my four plus months of physical therapy, I was a little bit sad. It was an amazing experience. My recovery was tough, but Mark knew how to help me not only physically but also psychologically. He motivated me to push through the pain, and he was right every step of the way. He has done the same with my son, who is soon ready to return to playing soccer after six plus months of physical therapy. We are so delighted with his recovery. Plus the office staff is great - always friendly and responsive, ready to help....especially Jaimie. Thank you!

Jackie Tamayo, MS, OTR/L

California Licensed and Nationally Registered Occupational Therapist

Jackie earned her degree in Occupational Therapy in 2012 from New York University in Manhattan. Early on she knew she wanted to specialize in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation and as a student she began to gain experience under the instruction of a CHT in a city hospital. Jackie began her career in an acute physical rehabilitation and trauma setting, soon transitioning to an outpatient clinic specializing in working with the military population and their families as well as the treatment of injuries in the workplace. It was a very rewarding opportunity that not only gave her valuable experience but also affirmed her commitment and passion for quality and compassionate care. Growing up in a military family as well as becoming a military wife have made Jackie’s experiences working with veterans with upper extremities injuries much more meaningful. It was these experiences that motivated Jackie to enhance her skills and knowledge. And so, she sought out and completed an 18th month residency program in Occupational Hand Therapy at Ortho Carolina, a large and well-known orthopedic company in North Carolina. There she focused on the treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries; traumatic, and post-surgical, as well as conservative. At Ortho Carolina, Jackie also performed fabrication of custom orthoses/splints on a walk in basis. She worked closely with a team of orthopedic hand surgeons, usually meeting on a daily basis to discuss complicated cases. She collaborated with experienced Certified Hand Therapists to treat some of these complex cases of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Jackie is looking forward to achieving her goal of obtaining the prestigious title of Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in November 2017.

Learn more about Jackie

Jackie’s experience, skills and devotion to excellence make her a valuable member of the respected hand and occupational therapy team at Mesa Physical Therapy. She is committed to providing patients with the personalized care and attention they need to facilitate healing and function, allowing them to return to enjoying the activities they love. Her passion for her craft is shown every day through her positive friendly attitude, attention to detail, and constant pursuit of continuing education in order to further advance her knowledge regarding the treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries.

Jackie was born and raised in a military family, living all over the country as a young child, but has many memories in Southern California due to her Mom being from San Diego. She has lived on the east coast for many years before recently relocating with her husband, who has just transitioned from active duty Army to the Reserves. Jackie is looking forward to calling San Diego home from now on. She enjoys chocolate, fruit smoothies, and relaxing with her cat. Jackie loves to be outside and active as she grew up playing sports. In her free time, she also enjoys practicing aerial silks and attempting handstands.
